The course explores the challenges of teacher education in Cuba. First the author presents the transition since the Literacy Campaign in 1961 to the present educational revolution. This is followed by a clarification of the fundamental concepts of teacher training, teacher education and professional development moving into the theoretical framework for initial teacher training. Next the most important challenges identified for this paper are examined-the role of culture, supporting teacher trainees and novice teachers, the role of reflection and the impact of ICT in teacher education.
